Competition process for SkillELECTRIC 2008
Stage 1 - identifying your best candidate
- Colleges and employers should use the 'Skill M&E talent spotting model' to identify suitable candidates and then, if needed, run in-house competitions to select their best competitor.
- Entry forms to register candidates should be submitted by the end of February 2008.
Stage 2 - assessing the candidate
- Spring 2008: an independent assessment of all nominated candidates is undertaken to test their underpinning knowledge and practical appreciation.
Stage 3 - national skills competitions (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland)
- Summer 2008: assessed candidates will compete in their country's national skills competition. The practical competition specification will be issued prior to the events.
Stage 4 - UK final skills competition
-
Autumn 2008: the top candidates from each national competition will compete in the UK final. The practical competition specification will be issued prior to the events.
Stage 5 - WorldSkills selection
-
There may be an opportunity for the top candidates from the UK final to be invited to the UK Skills selection event*.
*Candidates need to fall within the age parameters and work standard set by WorldSkills UK.
What you need to do now
If you think you have someone (or a number of people) that fit the bill, we want you to nominate them for SkillELECTRIC. This is how it works:
-
Use the talent spotting checklist to narrow down a shortlist of potential candidates.
-
Carry out the in-house competition to select your best candidate from the shortlist.
-
Complete the entry form (England & Wales) or
entry form (Northern Ireland) with your competitor's details and return it to us by 14 March 2008 (closing date extended from 29 February).
