SkillPIPE champion wins more than just a trophy!
06 Jan 2010
SkillPIPE 2009 winner John Clark won more than just a top-class award after being crowned UK champion in the pipe fitting competition organised by SummitSkills – he also got a new job!
John was delighted when the quality of his expertise was rewarded with first place at the 2009 final, held at Leeds College of Building. However he faced an unexpectedly bumpy end to the year when his job fell victim to the recession and he faced redundancy. But all was not lost.
Shepherds Engineering Services (SES) had already witnessed the very high calibre of SkillPIPE competitors when employee Nick Lester took second place in the 2009 final. When SES heard about John’s situation, they were so impressed with his skills that he was offered a permanent position with the company, one of the leading providers of mechanical and electrical services to the public and private sectors.
As John started his new job he said: “I would also like to say thanks to everyone on the SkillPIPE team because if it wasn’t for the competition, I would be job hunting now!” On hearing the news, Neil Collishaw, head of skills competitions at SummitSkills, sent heartiest congratulations from the whole team, who are extremely pleased that John is able to continue his career in the heating and ventilating industry.
Meanwhile, plans are already in full swing for SkillPIPE 2010.
